Makkah Emir Prince Mishaal ibn Abdullah ibn Abdulaziz opened the 43rd King Abdulaziz University (KAU) graduation ceremony Wednesday evening at KAU Stadium in the presence of Dr Khalid Al-Anqari, Minister of Higher Education, and Prof Osama S. Tayyeb, KAU President.

The ceremony, which was also attended by senior KAU executives, hosted a total of 11,337 graduates  from various faculties— 864 postgraduate and 10,473 bachelor’s degree.

What added to the splendid ceremony is the presence of parents, sharing in the overall feeling of contentment and gratification with their sons and daughters.

The event was opened with the national anthem followed by recitation of some verses from the holy Qur'an and a students' graduation parade.

Representing the graduates, Safwan S. Tayyeb gave a speech in which he stressed the graduates' determination to do their utmost in the best interest of their religion, nation and King. He also thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for lavishing special care on education.

In his speech, Prof Tayyeb congratulated the graduates and their families on the occasion, maintaining that the university was proud of its graduates, who were expected to positively contribute to the development of their country.

He also thanked Prince Mishaal for patronizing the event and his unstinting support to the university.

Administered by Dr Mahmoud S. Al-Ahwal, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, students of health faculties then took a doctor's Hippocratic oath to ethically practise medicine.

High-achieving students were also honoured during the event.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof Tayyeb presented Prince Mishaal  with a souvenir on the occasion.
